On the initiative of Paikgacha Agriculture Extension Directorate of Khulna, mustard crop field day and technical discussion was held in Puraikati village of Gopalpur block of the upazila on November 27 afternoon. Agriculture Extension Department Khulna Region Additional Director Agronomist Mohan Kumar Ghosh was present as the chief guest on the occasion. DA Khulna Deputy Director Agronomist Kazi Jahangir Hossain presided over the event.
In the speech of the chief guest, the Additional Director said that the cultivation of oil crops in the country has increased to a large extent as compared to the previous year, as a result of which the government has to import less edible oil worth about Tk 5000 crore. It will be possible to cultivate Boro rice after cultivation of Bari Sarisha-14 mustard by planting Aman variety of rice with short life span developed by agricultural scientists. In this way every inch of land will be utilized as announced by the honorable Prime Minister through optimal utilization of land. Under the project to increase the production of oilseed crops in the financial year 2023-24, the special guests spoke at the field day and technical discussion program of Partan-based mustard single exhibition, project monitoring officer agriculturist A, H, M, Jahangir Alam, DAE Khulna additional deputy director (horticulture) agriculturist Mahadev Chandra Sana. And additional deputy director (plant conservation) agronomist SM Mizan Mahmud, reserved women's union council member Rakhi Begum and oil producing farmer Abdul Aziz and others. Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Asim Kumar Das gave the welcome speech. Oil producing farmers/farmers along with Assistant Agriculture Officers were present on the occasion.
Earlier in the current fiscal year, the additional director inaugurated the simultaneous block exhibition of Bri rice 87 varieties under the incentive program in the Kinukati field of Koira upazila in Kharip 2 season. At this time, he said, as a result of the current agriculture-friendly government's sound agricultural policy, today the saline fields have yielded golden crops. Mechanization in agriculture by the government is the benefit of paddy cultivation today. The government has announced a subsidy of up to 70 percent in coastal areas of the country to encourage mechanization in agriculture. He appealed to the agricultural officers and farmers/farmers present to increase the intensity of the crops by widening the perimeter aisles in the saline area and bringing other crops under the cultivation there. Kazi Jahangir Hossain, deputy director of the Directorate of Agricultural Extension, Khulna presided over it.
