The 28-day departmental tree plantation drive and tree fair in Khulna ended on August 23. Hon'ble Deputy Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ministry Begum Habibun Nahar was the chief guest at the closing ceremony. At this year's tree fair held at Khulna Circuit House grounds, 71,000 saplings worth about Tk 80 lakh were sold, said the departmental tree planting campaign and tree fair celebration committee.                    In the speech of the chief guest at the closing ceremony, the deputy minister said that the tree plantation program has been taken as a special initiative of the government. The tree plantation program needs to be accelerated through mass participation of the people. Many people have been created employment opportunities through tree plantation and are becoming prosperous. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is giving importance to every sector including tree plantation. According to the Prime Minister's announcement, not even an inch of land can be left vacant. The Deputy Minister called on everyone to plant three trees if one tree is cut. He also said that Sundarbans has been protecting our region from natural calamities. We all have to come forward to protect the Sundaban.                     Additional Commissioner of Metropolitan Police Md Sajid Hossain, Additional DIG Joydev Chowdhury, Conservator of Forests Mihir Kumar Dey and Superintendent of Police Mohammad Saidur Rahman spoke as special guests on the occasion under the chairmanship of Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Helal Mahmud Sharif. Welcome speech at the closing ceremony, Divisional Forest Officer Dr. Abu Nasser Mohsin. The President of the Nursery Owners Association, SM Badrul Alam Royal gave a welcome speech. On the occasion, the Chief Guest distributed crests and certificates to the last stall representatives and distributed crests and certificates to the winners of drawing and writing competitions on the occasion of tree plantation drive and tree fair.
